Customer Service Representative
This six-month program provides students with a working knowledge of dealing with customers, walk-ins, call-ins, and other tasks staff utilize in a front-desk, receptionist, or customer service position. These entry-level positions may be in retail, information desks, public institutions, or other office settings.

  • Keyboarding I/II: 6 credits
  • Office Procedures I/II: 6 credits
  • Business Communication: 3 credits
  • Human Relations: 3 credits
  • Integrated Software: 3 credits
  • Software Management Programs/Hardware: 3 credits
  • Internet, Web Sites and E-mail Programs: 3 credits
    Total: 30 credits

Placement and Career Path
Persons in these positions can advance in a variety of directions. This program provides an overview of the people skills, the processes and equipment of a business or agency, an introduction to computer software, and the basic employment entry requirements in grammar and keyboarding. Previous experience with the public is helpful in gaining employment, but is not always required. Graduates of this program may find employment in most of the sectors of the economy and may be classified as a Clerical and Administrative Support worker or as a Sales worker. Receptionists and Information Clerks alone are expected to generate 800 openings a year in the Twin Cities, and another 1,000 a year are projected for Customer Service Representatives. These are among the areas with the greatest number of openings projected through 2012, with well over 20 percent growth projected in the Twin Cities.
